It’s Not About Hating Who You Are
Getting reconstructive procedures does not necessarily mean hating who you are and how you are born. It’s more about raising self-esteem and building stronger self-love and satisfaction. Although we at Dr. Thanh Nguyen know that many would like to concur, we want to shed some light on the topic of plastic surgery and help you get a better grasp on what it means for someone who’s getting the procedure done.
According to a study conducted by Asimakopoulou et al., entitled “Plastic Surgery on Body Image, Body Satisfaction and Self-Esteem,” cosmetic surgery can improve aesthetic appearance and, subsequently, self-esteem and self-confidence.
In their study, they surveyed 128 cosmetic surgery patients before and after their procedures.
Prior to surgery, only 7.3% of participants said they were very satisfied with their physical appearance, while after treatment, this figure rose to 38.6%. Before treatment, 17.7% of the participants said they felt bad about their body during sex and this dropped to 2.5% after the treatment.
So, it’s not about hating who you are. It’s about finding ways to love yourself more than you ever did before.
